Time to Prepare Your Car For Summer |
Posted on Nov 30 2009 |
August heat waves caught most peninsula residents off-guard, and while the return to normal spring weather has taken the pressure off, it is definitely timely to remind everyone to prepare their cars for summer.
According to Peninsula Auto Zone Service Manager, Ryan Hewton, there are a number of safety checks and measures that can be taken to make driving your car more pleasurable in the humidity and energy sapping heat we are all too familiar with.
“Firstly, take advantage of the free safety checks that most mechanics offer these days,” Ryan said.
“Peninsula Auto Zone offers a 10 point safety check, and we are also offering a free air-conditioning diagnostic at the moment.”
These checks will help determine just what measures you need to take to ensure your engine and auto-electrics are functioning correctly.
“Secondly, if you haven’t already, consider adding heat-resistant features such as window tinting and paint protection. These measures can help prolong the life of your car, improve re-sale value and make driving in summer more enjoyable.
“Thirdly, consider your regular and holiday driving needs. Will you be going off road? Do you park your car outside? Treatments such as rust-proofing, regular waxing, extra bumpers, tow bars and improved shock absorbers can make your trips safer and protect your car in the long run.”
Manager of Peninsula Auto Zone, Sarah Reberger, recommended car owners not leave it until the week prior they were going on holidays, or the week after the hot weather hits, to book their cars in.
“We sometimes get booked out days in advance, and the last thing you want is to be rushing around trying to get your car serviced somewhere inconvenient or unfamiliar,” Sarah said.
“Also, if you plan in advance you can usually take advantage of special offers, and organise pick-ups and drop-offs more easily.”
